Socks & Mittens
Make Them In the
Hoop |
Designs require a large 5x7
hoop
| Just what you've been
looking for--something fast, easy and fun AND costs little but a bit of
time. Everything you see on this page was made from fabrics in my
personal stash. You know, all those left-over pieces that were too big
and too nice to throw away, but not big enough to really do much with?
Here you go. Don't just think Christmas--great to add to any occasion
from Easter to birthdays and parties of any kind.
Most of these were made with the patterns (included
but not shown) in order to get perfect placement of the fabric images,
but you can also trim in the hoop. Detailed instructions are included
for both. Note: If you have
oversized hoops, I've included sew-outs so you can do two at once of
either the socks or the mittens. FINISHED
SIZE OF EITHER SOCK OR MITTEN, AS SHOWN, IS 4"X4" |
Make matching sets of mittens or socks. Let the little ones in your
life pick their own favorites. Doesn't take much. Do a complete set and
use for party favors. |

Add some sparkles to make your creations as elegant as you like. You
can buy sparkles HERE
at Design by Dawn. Pictures do not
EVEN capture how great this looks! |

Perfect for baby gifts to tie on the outside of packages. These can
be stuffed with fiberfill and slip-stitched at the top for a baby safe
toy that is washable. |
Pop a set of earrings inside and hang on the tree or attach to a bow
on a package. This works for any season--doesn't have to be Christmas. |

Ok, so what boy from three to teen (or older) wouldn't love one of
these with some cash tucked inside or maybe a key to his heart's
desire.
Start a tradition for that little guy in your life and let him look
for "his" sock on the tree each year. By the time he's grown,
he'll have a whole set of ornaments with wonderful memories attached to
each one. Works for girls, too! |

Yep, they will work in the kitchen, bathroom, wherever. Use the
fabrics you used to accent your room. Doesn't take much and what a nice
custom touch. |

Write a positive sentiment onto a a small piece of paper, roll into a
scroll , tie with a bit of curly ribbon and tuck inside.
Perfect alongside a luncheon plate! |

The sock above is made from sequined fabric so it sparkles
beautifully in the light.
This sock was trimmed in the hoop without using the included
patterns. No decorative stitching was sewn on the cuff. That is
optional. |
| Examples of different types of
fabrics. There is no limit to what you can do. Leopard mitten, above, is
faux fur. Obviously, not impossible to do, but I did find the faux fur
bulky to work with. Love the results. Soft and furry, much cuter than
can be shown here.
Socks and mittens can be sewn with or without decorative stitching.
Strawberry Shortcake, above,, and cat socks, below, have no decorative
stitching on cuff. The leopard mitten cuff has decorative
stitching. The choice is yours.
Would work well for the tooth fairy, too! Make up in favorite fabric,
tuck under the pillow at night for the tooth fairy to find.

with socks and mittens. Notice the colors and types of fabric are
completely different, but this garland is cute as can be.

Jean, a friend and customer, tried out the socks and mittens for me and
had a lot of fun.
Jean is known for being innovative and she decided she wanted some
longer socks and mittens, too. She made up the sock front and back
and left them long, adding names and a folded cuff on some of them. Then
she sewed them together on her regular sewing machine.
The only problem, she tells me, is they are addicting and she kept
seeing fabric that would work well. Because they are so fast and easy,
she made up a bunch and was still going when last she talked to me.

to come back.
Thanks, Jean, for sharing! |
